Review</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been a fan of Audrey Hepburn's work since I was very young. I remember growing up with her movies and loving her style. This book isn't the first I've read about her life, not even the first that's touched on her childhood. However, this book provides such a unique perspective.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Before reading this book, I was unaware of the experiences that she'd had during the war. Which made this book incredibly appealing to me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The depth that this book goes into was incredible. It provides an interesting and honest look into the early life of one of the worlds most loved stars, and the inclusion of photographs adds a whole extra layer.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I found myself falling into this book, wanting to know more and more. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've always had an interest in wartime experiences, which made this book even more compelling to me, and I was interested in the parallels between Audrey and Anne Frank.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book gave a lot of information and was written in an interesting way, that kept me turning the pages.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'd say, even if you've read other books about Audrey's life. This one is definitely worth a read as it goes into areas that a lot of other books hadn't touched.</div>

Excerpt</h3>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I count the days until prom like I count calories. Ninety-eight days. Thirteen hundred calories.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I almost puke at the number.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thirteen hundred. Maybe. I’m not even sure, which scares me more than the weight of the number.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
How could I not keep track? And how could I go over? Do I really have no self-control? If I keep this up, I’ll be right back where I started—fat and unpopular.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My forehead beads with sweat and my fingers twitch, as I glance at my alarm clock—only three a.m. I turn on my side, then get up, knowing there’s no falling back asleep now. Not with all the numbers running through my head. Not with the fat I must’ve stored throughout the night resettling on my thighs like it found its way back home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I tip-toe away, out of bed, afraid someone might hear me, which is unrealistic since my mother’s snore rivals a bass drum and my father sleeps like the dead. As for my sister, Kelly, she couldn’t care less what I do.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I come to a stop in front of the full-length mirror on my bedroom door, I don’t even take the time to assess my silhouette in the moonlight. Instead, I lift the soft cotton of my t-shirt. My eyes home in on my ribs, barely visible under a layer of fat, then move to the paunch above the drawstring of my pajama bottoms. I poke at the skin there and grimace at the cushion I find. All I see are the two cookies I ate at Cara’s house last night and I wonder how many calories were in each bite. Fifty? Twenty-five? I have no idea and my ignorance scares me. I had fun and felt too safe, too included. I let those feelings cloud my judgment and lull me, blanket me into false security, where I allowed myself to lose control.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Stupid.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I lower my shirt, I silently berate myself, then drop to the floor and lie on my back. With closed eyes, I cross my arms over my chest and start sit-ups. I count as I go. One. Two. Three. I do this until the memory of the cookie fades and my abdomen aches. When I can do no more, I stand back up and bend forward in a deep lunge. I ensure my knee touches the ground each time, my legs at perfect ninety-degree angles. Ten laps around my room, I tell myself, then I’ll try and go back to sleep.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I once read sleep burns more calories than lying awake, something about your body recalibrating your metabolism. I don’t buy it. Regardless, there’s no way sleep burns more than lunging, so as my thighs begin to burn and catch fire, I allow the sensation to ease the fluttering in my chest and the rise of bile in my throat.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Right lunge. It will be okay. Left lunge. I’ll be okay.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I won’t gain ten pounds from two cookies.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But I could gain one.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I finish, slightly sweat-damp and out of breath, but feeling a tiny bit better, I get back under the covers of my bed. Though I’m too hot with the thick comforter pulled up tight under my chin, I leave it there because it will make me sweat. And while perspiring won’t burn excess fat, it might help me lose water weight, giving me the tiniest bit of peace to help me relax into the mattress and slip off into a light slumber.</div>

Hi all,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
January is usually my best month when it comes to reading, that and December. It has a lot to do with starting or ending a new Goodreads reading challenge.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This year, I set my goal at 100 books and I made quite the dent this month.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's everything I read in January.</div>

So, I didn't do that well on my TBR, reading just three books from my list of ten. I also didn't get a lot of reading done from mu extensive shelf collection, but I am pleased I managed to get through so many NetGalley books. Amongst them, I found some amazing graphic novels, poetry books, and novels. I'm also thrilled I managed to finished thirty-five books. It's given me a very nice boost for my 2018 reading goal.</div>

Review</h4>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I saw this book, I have to admit that the cover and title alone didn't immediately grab me and honestly, I probably would have skimmed past it if I hadn't noticed the words John Green wrote about it on the front. I've long been a fan of his work, so I figured if he was recommending it, then it was worth a deeper look.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm so glad that it caught my eye because as soon as I read the synopsis that I was clicking on the request button.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Whilst I did have a few issues with the characters and wanting a little more depth and development to them. On the whole, it was a great book.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It deals with a lot of really important issues in a sensitive and very real way. Delving into the emotions of situations and how different people see things in different ways.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While, as I mentioned, I did want a little more character development. Jade was a realistic, likable main character who kept me interested in the book.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm so glad I requested this one that almost got away.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This was a very enjoyable book. It was a quick read which I found myself not wanting to put down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Told in three perspectives, it explores a lot of different things including a complicated family dynamic and mental health issues.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the things I liked so much about this book, was the inclusion of Poppy's narrative. As the youngest, she offered a unique perspective on things and I enjoyed how she was the one keeping her two siblings together. Holding their family together.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What you get with this book is a highly enjoyable contemporary, with a decent dose of romance and family drama thrown in.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I enjoyed it a lot.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Adopting the Then and Now narrative style which I'm a fan of, <i>See all the stars</i> slowly unravels the events of Ellory's Junior year and the effects it's had on her senior year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As far as the pacing of this novel goes, I thought it was pretty good. Nothing was revealed too soon and it didn't feel like it was dragging on, which can so easily happen when you're switching from past and present narratives.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The characters all felt honest, well fleshed out and interesting. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The book has just the right amount of mystery.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I found myself getting some <i>Pretty Little Liars</i> vibes when I was reading this. Which isn't a bad thing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One thing I liked a lot, was that it wasn't completely predictable, which kept me interested.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Overall, I found this book a really good read, one which I'd definitely recommend. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I loved <i>We Were Liars, </i>so when I saw that E.Lockhart had a new book coming out, I was instantly excited by it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Genuine Fraud</i> did not let me down, even though I had high expectations going in.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What you get with this book is a dark, twisty story that will keep you guessing. With an incredibly interesting and unique narrative style, I found myself unable to set this book down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The characters were all well thought-out and were brought to life incredibly well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The pacing was spot on. I never found myself skimming over a chapter wanting to get back to the action, because there was always something going on, without seeming overly heavy on drama.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Truly, a fantastic read and I'd highly recommend it.</div>

<div>
</div>
<blockquote>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He moved a little closer, his jeans gliding easily over the leather, and put his right arm on the back of the seat too. Despite looking like he rolled out of a dumpster, he didn’t smell like it. He smelled like Irish Spring soap.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“When did you move to town?”He wasn’t looking at me, or anything in particular for that matter, but I could only assume the question was for me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Yesterday.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Will you be at school Monday?”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Yeah.” I wasn’t playing his game. If he wanted to have a conversation with me, he was going to have to look in my eyes and address me like a human being.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Are you a senior?”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Junior.” I flashed him a fake smile he didn’t see.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thorn raked his hands through his thick, gray-tipped hair, then clasped them behind his head. That position only lasted for a few seconds then he lurched forward, resting his elbows on his knees. I couldn’t tell if he didn’t want to be near me or if he just couldn’t keep still. I slid away from him either way.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Is she always like this? Really, Henry. I know you haven’t known her long but she can speak in sentences, right?”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Clearly CC has good taste and knows not to even bother talking to you.” Luna’s dislike for him made me think my snap judgement was sound. He was probably some kind of hot, crazy-haired womanizer.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The easy balance of our trio had turned into a volatile quartet. I pulled a curl though my fingers to keep my hands busy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Thorn, don’t. Be nice.” Henry said it in a genial way, but Thorn seemed to take it as law. He sat back, flung his knee up, rested his left elbow on the back of the seat, and unleashed the full force of his wide-set, honey-brown eyes on me. They were so clear and so deep it made me wonder if he hadn’t been looking at me on purpose to save me from how cosmic they were.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“CC, it’s nice to meet you. I’m sorry if I scared you or made a bad first impression, but as I’m sure you could sense, my situation was dire. My situation is dire.” His tone changed from confident and clipped to languid and loose, but I couldn’t tell if it was sincere.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I accept your apology.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
What can I say? I loved this book from start to finish. Full of interesting characters, I was hooked from the very first line. I read the book basically in one sitting, stopping only to get a cup of coffee. I didn't want to put it down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I loved the balance in this book between the romance and the more serious plotline, and the way the main character Maya handled situations both at home and at school. This book shows her growing into herself in an uncertain, often scary world and I loved that.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book felt honest, heartfelt and it was written so well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There wasn't a single part that I didn't like and I would highly recommend it.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book was a bit hit and miss for me. On the whole, I liked it, but there were also a lot of parts which I found dull to read. Which, I suppose it only to be expected when it's a collection of random facts, some will inevitably be more interesting than others.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The parts I found most enjoyable were the stories which related directly to his life. The stories about sleep-talking and how he met his wife, were to me at least, way more interesting than the random stories thrown into the mix.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I found myself wishing, on more than one occasion, that this was more of a memoir than the book that it was.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Having said all this, however, there were enough enjoyable stories contained in this book, to make it an interesting read and if you love random facts and weird observations, then this will definitely appeal to you.</div>

I'm in love with the art style of this book, from the coloring to the character design, I was enticed from the moment I saw the cover.</div>

Going deeper than the art, though, Giant tells an intricate and compelling story, against the backdrop of New York City during The Great Depression.</div>

I immensely enjoyed this book and I'd definitely recommend it.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
After reading Passenger last year, I was so eager to continue the series and yet it took me such a long time to actually pick it up. Now that I've finished it, I'm so mad at myself for not reading it sooner.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Just like the first book, Wayfarer pulls you into a richly created world and has you so invested in the characters inhabiting that world.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Full of drama and emotion, this was a definite page-turner.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A perfect continuation of Passenger. If you haven't checked out this series, I highly recommend it.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really enjoyed this short graphic novel. Taking us through the life of the main character, I enjoyed not only the story but the art style as well. This is definitely going to be a series that I'll continue and I'm so pleased I got the chance to review it.</div>

Hi all,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today I wanted to delve into what I've been writing recently. In 2017, I wrote a few full novels, especially during the Camp NaNoWriMo sessions, where I tend to write two or more full novels. Which is great. However, it also leaves me with a lot of unedited first drafts on my hand.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Which is why this year I want to tackle a lot of those rewrites. I'm also going to be starting a new project called <i>Dear Laura</i> which will be written in a format new to me and I'm still figuring out all of the details. More updates on that one coming in the near future.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For now, here are the books I intend to get through the first stages of editing this year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This year I'll be focussing on three novels in a companion series I've been working on.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
Scintilla </h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- A tiny, brilliant flash or spark; a small thing; a barely visible trace.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's been a rough year for Sasha. Starting with the accident that ended her gymnastics career in May and ending with her flunking out of high school almost exactly a year later. Everything seems to be going from bad to worse and she's given up. Her bedroom seems as good a place as any to spend her summer.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Her parents have other ideas. Not willing to let her sink into her self-pitying darkness, they insist upon her spending the summer at their old vacation spot. Lake Wilson. It's just what they think she needs and the last thing she wants.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There might just be one bright spot in her summer. The boy across the lake, Mateo.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On a break from college for the summer, Mateo's parents convince him to join them at the lake where his mom spent her summer's when she was growing up. Giving up a job at a publishing house, he tries to make the most of his summer.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The last thing either of them expected was to fall for someone this summer, but that's exactly what starts happening.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As the summer unfolds, though, Sasha starts to wonder if Mateo's telling her everything. Most of the time he's the perfect guy until he starts disappearing for days at a time with no explanation, then continues to become more and more withdrawn whenever he is around.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Could Sasha's one bright spark be fading out before it can take light? And what is causing Mateo to so suddenly withdraw from her?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<h3>
Lacuna </h3>
<div>
- An unfilled space, a gap.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Magnolia Grace never knew her real parents. When she was a baby, they were killed in a car accident, leaving her to be raised by their best friends, who took her in as their own child. Even though she grew up with a mom, dad and a brother and sister, she always felt like there was something missing in her.</div>
<div>
At her mom's suggestion, she travels to a small lakeside community in California, where her story began. She spends the summer exploring Lake Winston, where her parents met, fell in love and started their family. While she's there, she attempts to reconnect with her grandparents, who exited her life the day her parents died.</div>
<div>
Tensions and emotions run high as she tries to fill the gap inside her with blood relations.</div>
<div>
It's not long before she starts to regret the trip, that is until she meets Wes, her grandparent's gardener and the only person she feels she can talk to openly. </div>
<div>
As the summer progresses, Magnolia realizes she may find something she wasn't even looking for.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<h3>
Sonder </h3>
<div>
- The realization that every person is living their own vivid life. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Layla is a solitary person. Home educated since she was nine, she doesn't have much contact with the outside world and that's the way she likes it.</div>
<div>
Each summer her lakeside town floods with tourists and while the few friends she does have, flock to the water, coffee shops, and other attractions. She retreats to her room where she works on her blog.</div>
<div>
This summer, she's trying to spend as much time with her best friend Gina as she can, before Gina leaves for college in the fall. Only Gina wants to be out and having fun, not stuck inside wasting the days away.</div>
<div>
Then things start to happen. Her mom gets invited to travel the country to bring her fitness classes to different gyms. Gina falls in love for the first time and even Gina's grandma has booked herself on an African Safari. Everyone around her is living a vivid life, while she sits inside watching other people enjoy life from afar.</div>
<div>
Something has to change and this is the summer to start taking risks. Starting, with leaving her house.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, there are my current writing projects. Have you got any projects on the go or that you intend to start this year? Let me know in the comments and please share and subscribe if you liked this post.</div>

Hi all,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know they say 'don't judge a book by its cover' but that doesn't mean that we can't admire a beautiful cover, right?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's a little look at ten covers that I think are stunning. All of these are books that I've read, except the last two, which are on my <a href="https://the-book-tower.blogspot.com/2017/12/most-anticipated-ya-books-of-2018.html" target="_blank">2018 Most Anticipated YA Books List</a>.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
With the new year approaching it was time for me to start looking into what books I may be interested in, little did I know that I'd end up with over seventy books on my list so far and that's just going through the Young Adult and a few Historical fiction books.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I can't list all of them here, because that would be insane. So, I've broken it down to just the YA books and just the ones I'm most anticipating. There are a lot of releases from authors I already love and some from new authors for me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you want to check out all the books I've added to my 2018 releases list, you can see that <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/4773962-hannah-harvey?shelf=2018-books-to-buy" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>

<br />
<a href="https://astoldbytina.net/letsreadindie-2018" target="_blank"><img alt="As Told By Tina" src="https://astoldbytina.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/253/2017/12/LetsReadIndie.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
As an indie author myself, when I saw this challenge it really excited me. So, even though the official link up is closed, I just had to join.<br />
I'm going to aim to read 1-10 indie books in 2018 and as of the moment, I don't have an official TBR for this.<br />
Where I'll be tracking down my books?<br />
I'm going to scour Goodreads, as well as using books given for review by authors and as part of blog tours that I participate in.<br />
I'm planning to aim to post a review of each indie book that I read, which will be posted here and on Goodreads.<br />
Lastly, I'd like to thank <a href="https://astoldbytina.net/" target="_blank">As Told by Tina</a> for hosting.<br />
<br />
Sidenote, if anyone is doing this challenge or plan to sign up. I'm happy to send out a few review copies of my own self-published books.<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

Hi all,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This year has been quite the year in books. 2017 saw the release of John Green's long-awaited new book. I found myself discovering new authors who quickly wound up on my favorite author's list. I branched out, not only in genre but also listening to a lot more audiobooks and I started juggling four or more books at one time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I read a total of 102 books (I have a full reading stats post up that you can check out). Out of those books, there were a lot that fell short, but I wound up with 21 books on my shortlist for best book of the year and I had to narrow that down to just ten. It was not an easy job, but eventually, I picked my best books of 2018. As always, this will be my top 10 favorite books that I read in the year, not just limited to 2017 releases.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you'd like to see my favorite 2017 releases specifically, comment below.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
With autumn officially here, I was back in a reading mood and found myself happily curling up under a blanket with a cup of coffee, reading for hours on end. I also found myself binge requesting books in NetGalley and trying to read and review as many of those as possible. Review</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Please note: I got this book via NetGalley. All my opinions are honest)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was already a fan of Emery Lord, so when I saw this book I got really interested right away. I'm pleased to say that I wasn't disappointed. This is a book that makes a fantastic summer read, easily read in one sitting. The pacing, plot, and characters were all spot on.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the things I loved the most about this book, was the dynamic between Lucy and her fellow camp counselors. Each with their own unique voice, it made for an interesting read which I simply couldn't put down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There's also a nice punch of emotional drama, which always gets me hooked and a good romance to boot. This book has Emery Lord climbing higher on my favorite author list!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I haven't posted anything in such a long time and that's mostly due to one thing. I haven't been reading. I've been in such a slump for a really long time and I'm only just starting to get out of it. There's something about summer, even though my daily routine doesn't change all that much, I just don't find myself motivated to read during the summer months.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As a result, the head start I got on my Goodreads reading challenge in the first few months of the year, has been completely undone and I'm now pretty far behind. How far? I've read 46 of the 110 books I was aiming to read this year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I still have hope that I'll be able to catch up. Coming into autumn and winter, I'm hoping my enthusiasm to read will increase. In the past week I've finished two books, so hopefully, this means that my slump is over.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have a stack of library and review books which I need to get through, as well as hundreds of books which I own. My aim is to get at least 15 books read in September.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What I have been doing while not reading is writing. Over the summer I took part in two sessions of Camp NaNo finishing the first draft of 4 novels. I also finished the edits on <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0735BT9XT" target="_blank">Love Me Louder</a> which is now available on Amazon. So, I wasn't doing nothing all summer I just wasn't reading. In other non-bookish pursuits, I've been learning to knit and planning the renovations on my room which I'll be starting soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, here's hoping that my slump is over and I'll be ready to read a lot more and post more frequently again!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
